FFXIV 1.0 History
Conviction was formed in 1.0 beta and jumped into release with a heavy crafting focus. Many of the lead crafters would become the first NA players to cap their respective classes, competing only with their JP counterparts for control of the markets. This crafting linkshell began to attract "battlecrafters" and by the time HNMs were released in December 2010, Conviction would be the home to the majority of rank 50 NA players. This strong start combined with a dedicated roster helped pave the way to many endgame achievements.
Conviction has benefited from stability throughout FFXIV. Indecent Proposal created the linkshell in beta and I have been leading ever since I took over in April 2011. A handful of players that joined in 2010 were active up until the 1.0 servers went offline, and due to this dedication we were able to maintain a weekly raiding schedule since I became leader two years ago (minus the two weeks that a few of us went to Japan!).
We completed all 1.0 content available including relics, obtaining white ravens, and clearing all dungeons and speed runs.
ARR Structure
The Free Company houses a wide variety of players ranging from dedicated endgame players, DoL/DoH-focused players, and a few casual players. While it may be difficult to manage a group with such varying play styles, we do our best to make sure everyone understands how the FC works and that their expectations are in-line with mine. Conviction has been able to maintain a solid roster where we can competitively tackle new content while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere outside of raiding.
The roster is endgame-centric, however we do realize the value of having a variety of players contributing to discussions, filling in for groups, and bringing their personal flavor to the FC.
As of January 16th, we currently have three BCoB progression teams with a fourth late-night group still trying to solidify their roster. We also have a fair amount of players that are not assigned to any teams that either fill-in for content, have their own BCoB statics, and/or are waiting for an existing spot to open or a new team to be created.
Free Company Applications
An application will be required to join the Free Company. This is to help find players with the right mindset that would allow them to succeed with this group.
Recruits will be given a 30-day trial period after their application is accepted. Current members will discuss the recruit's performance and attitude in the forums, and a final decision will be made at the end of the trial window. A player's attitude and activity level are perhaps the biggest aspects being considered.
Endgame Recruitment
We currently have a very deep roster so we can afford to be picky. Recruitment is limited so be as detailed as possible if you submit an application so we can make the best decision.
More specific recruitment needs are listed in the next post.
Endgame Activities
Our fixed BCoB teams clear Turns 1-5 on Monday and Tuesday, depending on that team's schedule. In the past we've opened up BCoB farm teams as well - taking excess and unassigned players to clear Turns 1-4 and will probably start this up again, now that we've cleared the big holiday season.
Wednesday is Free Company Crystal Tower day, Thursday is reserved for anyone still needing EX Primals, and Friday is when we usually do light/full party treasure hunting. The rest of the week is open so players can post their needs and we can knock out any remaining content.
This will probably be the weekly schedule until patch 2.2 is released.
BCoB teams handle their own attendance/goals/rules but otherwise attendance is not mandatory for FC events. However this is an endgame group, and you get out of Conviction what you put in, so you will find that players will be more receptive when they see you putting in an effort to stay active and involved.
Login requirements
Players on fixed BCoB teams are responsible for keeping in touch with their teammates. Extended, unexplained absences will result in removal from the team and possibly the Free Company.
There's a little more leniency offered to players that aren't assigned to a BCoB team but we still request that everyone keeps in touch whenever possible. Basically, if you stay active and keep in touch then everything will be all right.
If a player returns to the game and wants to be re-invited, simply get in contact with us. Re-invites will be handled on a case-by-base basis.
Communication
The Free Company uses both these forums and teamspeak heavily for organization. While speaking on TS3 isn't necessary for most players, the ability to listen-in is required for the majority of our endgame events. Depending on the team/event, signups are also done on the event calendar.
Free Company Rules
Use common sense - we are all adults. Everyone has fun in their own way, but also realize that there are limits to everything. We want everyone to get along, play at a high level, and have a great time while they are here.
